Annie Get Your Gun
Annie Get Your Gun is a musical with lyrics and music by Irving Berlin. The musical premiered on Broadway on May 16, 1946. It ran for 1147 performances. It was directed by Joshua Logan. The role was Annie was played by Ethel Merman and the lead male role Frank Butler was essayed by Ray Middleton.
According to the story, Annie is a rifle woman who beats Frank Butler in a small shooting contest. Frank is the sharpshooting star of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. During the course of the competition Annie falls in love with Frank. But her skills as a shooter are recognized and she becomes a huge star and steals Frank's show from him. With his pride and self-confidence hurt, Frank runs away. Annie is left heartbroken, but they meet again and declare their love for each other. Frank rises above his pride and forms a shooting partnership with Annie.

 In the UK, the show premiered at the Coliseum on 7th June, 1947 and ran for 1304 performances. The role of Annie was played by Dolores Gray and Frank Butler's role was played by Bill Johnson. The original production was a huge success, it ran for 1147 performances and was the third longest running musical of the 1940's. The musical was also the biggest hit of Ethel Merman's career. The recreated her role in a 1966 production of the play at the Lincoln Center. The play has also been made into a motion picture in1950 starring Betty Hutton and Howard Keel.
The show was revived in 1999 on Broadway, this time the role of Annie was portrayed by Bernadette Peters. Although she felt short on many performance parameters, she was proclaimed as the most beautiful and sexiest Annie to date, and the best singer of all her predecessors.
