Anne of Green Gables is the story of young orphaned girl Anne Shirley with freckle face and red hair. She is sent to the home of a brother and sister Matthew and Marilla Cutbert. They live in the fictional town Avonlea of Prince Edward Island in Canada. Anne's life is devastated when she comes to know that Cutberts wanted to adopt a boy from the orphanage. But Cutberts finally accepts her. The character of Anne Shirley is one with fiery temper, romantic and melodramatic and has a penchant for misadventures. She is able to bring love, laughter and some dismay to the quite lives of brother and sister. In return Anne finds happiness and the home of her dreams. The other main characters in the play are Diana Barry, Anne's best friend, her love interest Gilbert Blythe who was earlier her class rival and Mrs Rachel Lynde the most important resident of Avonlea.
Anne of Green Gables came to life only through the hard work and creative genius of some persons in 1965. Persons like Norman Campbell, Elaine Campbell, Alan Lund, Mavor Moore and Don Harron teamed together to form Anne of Green Gables the musical.

Alan Lund was the stage director and choreographer. This was Lund's first show as a director. The actual Anne staging of 1965 is used till date.
Mavor Moore was the artistic director as well as co-lyricist. It was he who commissioned the stage version,and the head of production team and also negotiated the rights. He also penned down lyrics for three songs.
Don Harron formed the writer and co-lyricist. Its sounds very interesting that Don Harron got the idea of creating Anne of Green Gables musical while he was reading the book to his daughter.
Since the first screening of Anne of Green Gables – the musical in 1965 the show has never looked back. It has always received rave reviews wherever it has performed whether it is any festival , theater or even in schools.
