All About Me is the tentative name of Michael Feinstein's newest Broadway show. His big break was a chance meeting with Ira Gershwin. Gershwin hired the young man to catalogue his phonograph records. Soon this simple cataloguing job turned into a six-year excavation of at the home of the Gershwins in Hollywood. Feinstein helped preserve the legacy of Ira and his brother George. This big break helped him forge a friendship with the Gershwin's neighbor, Rosemary Clooney. All these great musical connections led to his first stint on Broadway, as the musical consultant for My One and Only. The show celebrated the works of the Gershwin brothers. Since that show Feinstein has been able to pursue opportunities like All About Me.
In 1986 he recorded an album, Pure Gershwin, which continued his efforts to keep the music of Ira and George Gershwin alive. Michael Feinstein followed the Gershwin album with a collection of Irving Berlin's hits, Live at the Algonquin. Feinstein's first orchestra-backed production (long before the upcoming All About Me) was a collection of standards entitled Isn't It Romantic.
