Aladdin
Background- Aladdin is a Arabic word which means "nobility of faith". The tale was originated in Syria in "The Book of One Thousand and One Nights". The tale has gained much popularity in whole of the world and is much loved by the children.
The story revolves around a poor young boy whose name is Aladdin. A sorcerer, taking advantage of his position, recruits him from the Maghreb in the far west. The sorcerer tells him that who tells Aladdin, he is the brother of Aladdin's late father and requests him to get a wonderful oil lamp which is kept in a booby-trapped magic cave. Aladdin brings in the lamp. But the sorcerer tries to double-cross him, and as a result Aladdin keeps the lamp for himself. After some time he comes to know that the lamp is magical. The magical lamp summons an arrogant djinn who carries out tasks according to the wish of the person who holds the lamp, and thus with the help of the djinn, Aladdin becomes wealthy and powerful. He then marries princess Badroulbadour.
Many years pass, after which we fins that the sorcerer returns and by tricking Aladdin's wife, he is able to get his hands on the lamp. Aladdin's wife was unaware about magical power of the lamp. Aladdin comes across the magical ring which was once given to him by the sorcerer, where in he finds a lesser powerful but a polite djinn. With the help of the ring, Aladdin is finally able to rescue his wife and the lamp, from the evil clutches of the sorcerer.

 In 1805, Adam Oehlenschläger wrote his drama Aladdin and Carl Nielsen composed the incidental music for this play. This famous tale has been many times adapted to animated film, including Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp, in the year 1939 Popeye the Sailor cartoon. In the year 1982 Media Home Entertainment released Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp. But the most popular is the one that Walt Disney Feature Animation made in the year 1992. What's more there is also a hotel and casino in Las Vegas which has been named as Aladdin.
In the the year 1960's Bollywood produced the movie "Aladdin and Sinbad", which is somewhat based on the original. In the story,the two heroes Aladdin and Sindbad meets and share the adventures of each other. But there is a twist in the tale, as we find that the djinn (genie) in the lamp is a female and Aladdin marries her rather than the princess. For the sake of Aladdin she becomes a mortal woman and gives up her magical powers.

Even after so many years, Aladdin still remains popular and has not lost its original luster and equally charming is the the timeless plot of the film, as one can easy relate to the plight of Aladdin. Not only this the message of simplicity and honesty still stands important in the present day. The story of Aladdin is still very impressive and it really highlights the light and dark moments of Aladdin's life. Some new songs has also been composed by the great composers, Alan Menken and Howard Ashman which are melodious and catchy such as "A Whole New World". When Aladdin was released by Walt Disney Feature Animation, many audiences as well as the critics have labeled it as a "Disney Classic". Watching the play is not only exciting but is also a fun.
