Aladdin (a corrupted form of the Arabic name Alauddin or Ala+ud+Din, which may be Arabic or Chinese in origin) is one of the most famous fairy tales in this globe and has a Syrian origin. It is one of the stories of the collection by the name of 1001 Nights and happens to be one of the most famous tales in Western culture.

In the United Kingdom, this story of Aladdin is a very popular subject for pantomimes. So the traditional Aladdin pantomime (which is supposedly set in China, unlike a lot of adaptations of the story) which is the source of the famous pantomime character Widow Twankey.

The story revolves around a poor young man named Aladdin probably living in China or Arab, who is recruited by a sorcerer to recover a wonderful oil lamp from a magic cave. Once the sorcerer attempts to double-cross Aladdin, he keeps the lamp with himself, and comes to know that the lamp summons a gruff jinni that has the compulsion to do what the person holding the lamp wants him to do. Now with the support of the jinn, Aladdin becomes powerful and rich and goes on to marry princess Badroulbadour.

The sorcerer who is a wicked person comes back and is able to get his hands on to the lamp by duping Aladdin's wife, as she is unaware of the lamp's importance. The sorcerer also steals Aladdin's wife. Consequently Aladdin discovers a lesser powerful, but polite jinni is summoned by the ring loaned to Aladdin by the sorcerer but eventually forgotten during the double-cross. Thus now assisted by the lesser jinni, smartly and cleverly, Aladdin recaptures the old lamp and his wife.

This theme of the cunning trickster of somewhat lowly birth who out foxes the trickster himself seem to be a widespread pattern in fables.

The story of Aladdin is a typical example of one of the seven most basic plots in story-telling. Here an example of the 'rags-to-riches' story. One of the most widely accepted reasons for the enduring interest aroused by the Aladdin story lies in our often unaware appreciation of the importance of its fundamental meaning. We identify our own struggles to grow and develop, with the same in Aladdin's journey.

Now imagine if this interesting and so immensely popular story is made into a play. Yes you thought it right; it would be very interesting and perfect for children, but equally interesting and attention catching for adults. As goes the saying in every adult heart a small child resides. So this play is not to be missed by children as well as adults at any cost. So book your tickets now. Online booking now open.
