'A Thousand Clowns' is a play by Herb Gardner. The play first premiered on Broadway in the 1960's. The shoe is now 39 years old and is still charming theater goes all over. The musical deals with the life of Murray Burns. Murray is a bachelor and uncle to his young aggressive nephew. He is frustrated with his job and is tired of writing cheap comedy. He soon finds himself unemployed and wandering through the streets of New York.

His unemployment becomes a bigger problem when he receives a notice from the department of Social Service. He is no faced with the dilemma of going back to his resentful job or to loose his beloved nephew. But Life has its own surprises for Murray. He falls in love with Sandra, one of the agents of the Department of Social Service. This is followed by a turn of events and many hilarious moments.

The original production was a star studded affair, it featured a talented and high profile line-up of stars that included William Daniels, Jason Robards, and Sandy Dennis. The musical targets conventional society with the non-conventional approach of Murray Burns. In between the play, Murray delivers a speech and describes one morning when on the subway, he suddenly realized the sad reality of his life, it was very difficult for him to return to his job, but it was even more painful to loose his nephew.
The role of Murray Burns is essayed by Tom Selleck. Tom does a wonderful job in reflecting the conflict that prevails in Murray's character. He portrays Murray as compassionate, understanding but sometimes passive-aggressive. Robert Lupone portrays Arnold Burns and Mark Blum plays Leo Herman The sets are designed by Allen Moyer Martin Pakledinaz's costumes are truly amazing.
