The Pacific Northwest Ballet is a renowned ballet company which belongs to Seattle, Washington in the United States. The company was founded by the leader members Leon Kalimos, Janet Reed and Melissa Hayden in 1972 with name Pacific Northwest Dance Association as a part of the Seattle Opera. The compnay comprised 18 dancers in 1977 but today it include 44 superb dancers , many of whom are trained at Pacific Northwest Ballet School only. Pacific Northwest Ballet has always given first priority to the career transition. The very first dancer transition program of the company was "Beyond Dance" which was established in 1988. Nowadays, a variety of assistance like continuing education grants, mentoring is offered by Second Stage for Dancers. In addition to this, an in-house program of university courses in cooperation with Seattle University is also offered.
In the company, three Ballet Masters assist Artistic Director Peter Boal. Since 1992, Otto Neubert has been with Pacific Northwest Ballet. Newbert has worked with Stuttgart Ballet and New York City Ballet. Anne Dabrowski who has formerly danced with Hartford Ballet, joined Pacific Northwest Ballet in 1997 as Ballet Master. In 1994, Paul Gibson joined the company as a Soloist and appointed as Principal in 1996. In 2004, after his retirement, Gibson was appointed as the Ballet Master. All the Ballet Masters train and rehearse the Company. They also practice Pacific Northwest Ballet School students who usually act in "Nutcracker" and other ballets. The resident production staff of PNB is famous for their quality. The team of the stage managers, technical crew, and scenic shop, as well as a costume shop is managed by Larae Theige Hascall and led by Technical Director James G. Daley. The repertoire of the PNB includes a wide variety of renowned choreographers and dance styles, new and traditional combination including Nacho Duato, Dominique Dumais, William Forsythe, Paul Gibson, George Balanchine, Donald Byrd, Val Caniparoli, Ulysses Dove, Christopher Stowell, Kent Stowell, Richard Tanner, Glen Tetley, Twyla Tharp, Antony Tudor and many others.
The company has improved to a great extent in terms of financial support from a budget of $800,000 in 1977 to a budget of $19 million in 2006. The company started its regional touring in early 1980s and extended to international touring in the mid – 1990s.
