In 1960s there were staging of many ballets such as The Legend of Love, The Leningrad Symphony, The Stone Flower and The Coast of Hope. Through these ballets traditions of symphonic dances were again revived. From 1950s to 1970s the celebrated dancers of the company were Anatoly Sapogov, Irina Kolpakova, Alla Sizova, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Alla Osipenko, Natalia Makarova, Yury Solovyev, Rydolph Nureyev, Valery Panov, and Irina Gensler.
In the 1970s number of ballets such as Lilac Garden, In the Night, Leaves Are Fading including more were staged. In 1989 the talented choreographer George Balanchine staged his ballets at the Mariinsky Theatre.
