Artist Biography - The Queers
|
Just after two years of formation, the band disbanded in 1984, but to the delight of their fans, reformed with Joe Queer and a new line-up in 1990. The same year the band signed a recording deal with Shakin' Street Records and came out with their debut album 'Grow Up'. The new album did quite well; it garnered a wide fan following within New England and created a buzz outside it. The band came out with their second effort 'Love Songs for the Retarded' in 1993 on Lookout! Records. The album did even better then its predecessor and made the band popular outside New England. The band's fan following grew considerably. The Queers are also known for their lively and enthusiastic live performances. Wherever they went or go, they are greeted with crazy screaming fans.
The Queers music is highly influenced by Ramones, their music can be labeled as Ramones, derived style of pop punk. Like the Ramones, generally the main crux of the bands lyrics is girls, drugs, alcohol and having fun. Although the band has been highly influenced by the Ramones, their music is slightly different from the driving rhythm guitar sound of the Ramones. The Queers supplements their songs with harmony vocals, handclaps, keyboards and guitar solos. The Queers music has been generally described as 'The Ramones meets The Beach Boys' by many critics and fans. Joe Queer and Ben Weasel of 'Screeching Weasel' often join hands to compose music for the Queers. The band is also popular for the assortment of cover versions they incorporate on their records and in live appearances.
The Queers generally cover works of artists such as The Beach Boys, The Ramones, The Mr T Experience, Skeeter Davis, The Fantastic Baggys, The Who, The Undertones, Tommy James and The Shondells, Helen Love and many more. In 2006, the band after releasing the live album 'Weekend at Bernie's', the band parted ways with their label company 'Lookout!' and the band then signed a recording deal with Asian Man Records and came out with the album Munki Brain in February 2007.
