The National is an indie rock band from Brooklyn by way of Cincinnati. The group formed in 1999 and came out with a sound that is part indie, part post-punk, and part revival. Matt Berninger baritone voice resonates as he takes the role of lead singer and songwriter. Aaron Dessner plays guitar, bass, and piano while his brother pays guitar as well. Scott Devendorf plays bass and guitar and his brother Bryan plays the drums. Sometimes Padma Newsome can be found on stage helping out with strings or the keyboard. The band's first release was American Mary and the National have honored their first studio album by naming their website after it.
