With a unique and famous sound which is a fusion of funk , jazz and rock, The Cat Empire makes a six-piece band. Currently the band is located in Melbourne, Australia. The sound of the band is highly influenced from Latin Music. The current line up of the band includes Harry James Angus on trumpet and vocals, Ryan Monro on bass and backing vocals, Will Hull-Brown on drums, Jamshid "Jumps" Khadiwhala on decks, percussion and Felix Riebl on percussion and vocals. As of 2006, they have released four albums and are signed on the Virgin Records label. The line up of The Cat Empire makes a conglomeration of great and energetic young musicians who also invite guest musicians to make their concert a treat to all music lovers.
The music of The Cat Empire possess a theme which completely discard materialism, war and impatience, attitude and follow an ardent embrace of cultural diversity with a simple and carefree life. The band is famous for its special treatment and care towards its fans. They regularly sends out messages personally and sometimes autographed postcards to their volunteer promotional team members across Australia.

Artist Biography - The Cat Empire

The band started with an original line up of Oliver McGill on keyboards, Felix Riebl on percussion and vocals and Ryan Monro on double bass in late 1999. They began with a wide variety of performances in Melbourne. The band appeared at many popular festivals like Melbourne Festival in 2001, Melbourne International Comedy Festival St Kilda Film Festival, Homebake and the Falls Festival and Woodford Folk Festival. The band headed for its first overseas tour from the west coast of the United States spanning San Francisco and many major cities. They recorded their self-entitled debut album in 2003 with producer Andy Baldwin in Melbourne. The album earned nominations in two categories at the Australian Jazz Awards. Encouraged by this response, The band successfully applied for an International hump ways grant from The Australian Arts Council.
By 2003, The band striked a deal with EMI Virgin Records along with one more deal in the UK with an independent company. With their second hit single "Days Like These", The band attained a big name and a huge fame for its awesome music and sound. They played at many major festivals including the East Coast Blues & Roots Music Festival in 2004. Their debut album proved to be platinum in February 2004. In September, the band launched a DVD entitled 'On the Attack'.
On 19 April , 2005, the band came up with their second album, "Two Shoes" peaking at # 1. This album was containing many old hits and favorites along with some new tunes. The cat Empire played two sets at the Cambridge Folk Festival in July 2005. In October, 'Two Shoes Deluxe Edition' DVD was launched addition to this, the band also released a Triple J CD entitled "Like A Version" featuring cover versions of songs performed by renowned artists on Mel Bampton's show, "Mel In The Morning". The band gave its wonderful performance in the Opening Ceremony of the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. The band announced its closing to signing record deals in both the US and Europe on Mark 29th. The band is again rocking the music industry with its latest album "Cities" released on 1st April. Which is delineated as "A tribute to our own city (Melbourne) and an experiment in sounds we've found abroad".
