In 2002, Frontman William Beckett and guitarist Michael Carden formed the band. A few days after establishment, Adam Siska joined with them as a bassist. Then came Adrian LaTrace Jr, as a second guitarist and Mike DelPrincipe joined as the drummer. The band started its career with the Chicago-based recording company, 'LLR Recordings', from where it released Beckett's solo project, 'The Last Place You Look' in 2002. As it became a massive hit, its copies sold millions. The band also started receiving lucrative offers from different recording companies of the U.S.A. At last, after deciding from all sides, the band made an accord with 'Fueled by Ramen', one of the leading recording companies of the U.S.A. From this recording company, the band has released a series of well-received albums.
In 2004, the band set out to Florida to record their 'Fueled by Ramen' debut, 'Almost Here'. It was produced by James Paul Wisner, who earlier worked with famous recording houses like 'Dashboard Confessional', 'Further Seems Forever' and 'Underoath'etc. This album turned out as a super hit and the band's name spread rapidly throughout the U.S.A. In the same year, 2004, the band went for a summer tour in different parts of the U.S.A., where it also achieved huge success. After that, a small lineup change took place in the band. Tom Conrad, ex-member of Chicago's local band '504 Plan', joined as a second guitarist and vocalist replacing LaTrace and Andy Mrotek replaced DelPrincipe as the new drummer. With these new members, the band conducted successful tours to different parts of the U.S.A along with other bands like 'Fall Out Boy', 'Something Corporate', 'Midtown', 'Matchbook Romance', 'Motion City Soundtrack' and 'Armor for Sleep'. The band members of 'The Academy Is...' recently performed a cameo appearance in 'Fall Out Boy's music video for their single, 'A Little Less Sixteen Candles', 'A Little More Touch Me', which became successful.
On 26th October, 2006, 'The Academy Is...' declared via a blog on their official website that Tom Conrad, its second guitarist cum vocalist was removed from the band. It was Michael Guy Chislett, who joined at Tom's place. On 3rd April, 2007, the band released the album, entitled 'Santi', which turned out as a super hit. Even, its copies ran out of stocks.
In 2007, the band performed successfully on the 'Honda Civic Tour', along with other rock bands like 'Fall Out Boy', '+44', 'Cobra Starship' etc. If you want to attend a concert of 'The Academy Is...', then buy the tickets of its show from Online Seats, before they are sold out.
