Artist Biography - Ten Years After
|
In 1967, Leo Lyons, Ric Lee, and Chick Churchill together with Alvin Lee, started the band Ten Years After. The band later on went on to be the most explosive band on the world stage. The same year the band got the opportunity to play at the esteemed Windsor Jazz Festival. The band's performance in the fest attracted the attention of numerous record labels. The band signed a recording deal with Deram, a subsidiary company of Decca. In 1967 itself the band came out with its eponymous first album â€ËÅ"Ten Years After'. A year later, after mesmerizing its fan in Scandinavia and the United States, the band came out with its second effort â€ËÅ"Live Undead'. The album spawned the hit single now considered a classic â€ËÅ"I'm Going Home'. In 1969 the band came out with yet another album â€ËÅ"Stonedhenge' which too became a hit. The classic single â€ËÅ"Hear Me Calling' belongs to this album. In July 1969, the band played the Newport Jazz Festival and a month later in August; it rocked the fans at Woodstock. In 1970 the band released the single â€ËÅ"Love Like a Man'. This single was included on the band's sixth album â€ËÅ"Cricklewood Green'. After the release of the album the band performed for 600,000 screaming fans at the Isle of Wight Festival. A year later the band came out with yet another album â€ËÅ"A Space in Time' which sounded more commercial. The album spawned the hit â€ËÅ"I'd Love To Change The World'. The band then came out with couple of more albums like Alvin Lee And Company (1972), Rock & Roll Music To The World (1972), and Positive Vibrations (1974). After the 1974 release the band disbanded. However, to the delight of many the three founding members Leo Lyons (bass), Chick Churchill (keyboards) and Ric Lee (Drums) regrouped in 2002. The trio after solidifying the lineup with guitarist/vocalist Joe Gooch are reviving the music, energy and excitement they've been known for. The band is not resting on its past laurels but forging ahead. In 2004 the band released the album â€ËÅ"Now' which was widely accepted. Ten Years After spent the year 2004 touring Europe. In 2005 the band came out with its double live album â€ËÅ"Roadworks'. The same album was released in 2006 in the US.
