Bogguss was born in Aledo, IL, in 1956, to a farming family that was into music big time. The love for music of her family rubbed off onto young Bogguss, and by the time she was five years old, Bogguss started singing in her church choir. Seeing her interest in music, Bogguss' parents encouraged her to learn the piano and drums as a child, and guitar as a teenager.

While pursuing art at Illinois State University, she played at local coffeehouses and clubs, for extra change. In 1980 Bogguss completed her graduation after which she hit the road, and performed around the Midwest, Northeast, and even parts of Canada.

After spending almost five years on the road, Bogguss shifted to Nashville in 1985 and began working as a demo singer while moonlighting in clubs by night. She then picked up a job as a singer at the Dollywood theme park and sold tapes of her own music.

Luckily one of the tapes landed in the hands of a Liberty/Capitol label executive who liked what he heard. Within no time she signed a recording deal with the label and came out with her first album âââ€?¬ËÅ"Somewhere Between', in 1988. The album garnered a lot of positive reviews for smoothly mixing country's past and present. The album had covers of Patsy Montana's 'I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart' and Merle Haggard's 'Somewhere Between,' and also the reasonably hit 'Cross My Broken Heart.' In 1990 Bogguss came out with her second effort âââ€?¬ËÅ"Moment of Truth' which failed to attract a wider audience.

In 1991, Bogguss released yet another album âââ€?¬ËÅ"Aces' which hit the bull's-eyes. The album spawned hit singles like âââ€?¬ËÅ"Someday Soon', âââ€?¬ËÅ"Letting Go', and âââ€?¬ËÅ"Outbound Plane'.

A year later she released her album âââ€?¬ËÅ"Voices in the Wind' which replicated the success of the previous album. In 1993 Bogguss delivered yet another hit album âââ€?¬ËÅ"Somethin' up My Sleeve' which spawned the hit singles in âââ€?¬ËÅ"Just like the Weather' and âââ€?¬ËÅ"Hey Cinderella'.

A year later she came out with yet another record âââ€?¬ËÅ"Simpatico' which featured beautiful duets with guitar legend Chet Atkins. The same year, Bogguss also released a greatest hits collection album. After the release of the album, Bogguss took a brief hiatus to begin a family with her husband and songwriting partner, Doug Crider.

After nearly two years of absence, Bogguss returned with the album âââ€?¬ËÅ"Give Me Some Wheels' in 1996 that did not do well. Her other albums like 1998's âââ€?¬ËÅ"Nobody Love, Nobody Gets Hurt' and âââ€?¬ËÅ"Suzy Bogguss' too met with the same fate.
After a short hiatus she returned with the album âââ€?¬ËÅ"Swing' which was followed by âââ€?¬ËÅ"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas'. In 2007, Bogguss released yet another album âââ€?¬ËÅ"Sweet Danger'.
