Subtle
Subtle, the popular band from Oakland consists of Adam Drucker, Jeffrey Logan, Dax Pierson, Jordan Dalrymple, Alexander Kort, and Marty Dowers. Although the band considers itself to be 'genre less', their songs have close ties to hip-hop and indie music. The band's live shows are popular for its theatricality, comprising hand-painted backdrops, set props, 'costumes', and theatrical monologues that go beside the musical performances.

Artist Biography - Subtle
|
Subtle, was started in 2001, after Jel and Dose, both employees at the Amoeba Music record store along with Dax Pierson started making music together. Eventually, woodwind player Marty Dowers, guitarist Jordan Dalrymple, and cellist Alexander Kort were roped in to strengthen the line up. Between 2002 and 2003 the band came out with its four 'season' EPs 'Summer', 'Autumn', 'Winter' and 'Spring'. The most popular numbers from these EPs were collected and released on the album 'Earthsick'. In 2003 the band signed a recording deal with Lex Records and after a year came out with its debut proper full-length album 'A New White'. The album had only one single 'F.K.O.', which meant 'Fuck Kelly Osbourne'. The album also introduced 'Hour Hero Yes', an aspiring rapper who was featured in the band's other albums too. After the release of the album the band hit the road to promote it. While on the road the band met with a near fatal accident.
In 2006 the band came out with a compilation album 'Wishingbone', which had some remixed songs from the previous album as well as new material and remixes. The same year the band released the album 'For Hero: For Fool' which was well appreciated by the critics. The single 'The Mercury Craze' from the album is featured as the opening song for the German TV show 'Spam Deluxe'. The band set off on a European tour in support of the album, however during the tour the band's tour van, was robbed in Barcelona.
In October 2007 the band released an album 'Yell&Ice', which contains remakes and remixes of its previous songs. The band also collaborated with artists such as Why?, Dan Boeckner of Wolf Parade, Tunde Adebimpe of TVOTR, Markus Acher of the Notwist, and Chris Adams of Hood for the album. Yell&Ice basically re-explains and re- explores the album 'For Hero: For Fool'. The band is all set to come out with yet another album 'ExitingArm' in 2008.
