The Spoons became a rage after their 1996 debut "Telephono". Eventually settling with bassist Andy Maguire, Spoon toured the country with the likes of Pavement, Guided By Voices, Silkworm, and Archers of Loaf. Their "Soft Effects EP" was released in 1997. The album showcased 5 new Britt Daniel originals, each single is a jagged and powerful suggestion that the previous year's album was only a hint of what the trio were capable of.

The acclaim of Soft Effects was followed by an ill-fated move to Elektra Records which found them being dropped after their third album, "A Series of Sneaks" in 1998.

Spoon then took the indie route with a handful of seven-inch singles and released the "The Agony of Laffitte EP" in 1999. In fall 2000, the "Love Ways EP" was released on Merge, this paved the way for spring 2001's LP "Girls Can Tell." The album was a critical and commercial success. Spoon released the more musically adventurous follow-up, "Kill the Moonlight" in August, 2002.

The new LP, Gimme Fiction, is nothing short of a dizzying, soulful masterpiece. It is easily the most expansive work of Spoon's career. Recorded throughout 2004 at Eno's Public Hi-fi studio in Austin with the production help of Mike McCarthy. Gimme Fiction is the sound of a band who are making the catchiest, most confident rock'n'roll of any group on the planet.
