Artist Biography - Spencer Day
|
29 years old Spencer has enjoyed a highly successful musical career, which normally takes a lifetime to achieve. He has had the opportunity to appear on national television four times and has played at some of the reputed venues in the United States.
His baritone has been compared to Harry Connick Jr. and his writings to those of Cole Porter, Paul Simon and Rufus Wainwright. Many a critics have called him "The male counterpart to Norah Jones." In spite of all the flattering comparisons, Spencer has his own unique musical style; he beautifully blends jazz, contemporary and folk /country genres to arrive at a music which is uniquely ‘Spencer Day'.
In his official website Spencer Day states that, "I want to create a passionate fusion of all the musical styles that have inspired me, as I grew as an artist, I hope to continue paying homage to the great artists who have shaped my style and sensibilities. I want to create music that is smooth and sophisticated but teeming with raw emotion and fire under the surface. It is in life's contradictions where the most beautiful things are created."
Day has reached where he is today, due to sheer hard work. He will be the featured performer at the 2007 San Francisco Jazz Festival. He is one of the all time favorite artists in the Bay Area, and has performed at Yoshi's, the Plush Room, the Great American Music Hall and the Herbst Theatre. He has also performed at other important venues like the Town Hall, Joe's Pub and the Canal Room in New York, Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., The Sheldon Concert Hall in St Louis, The Dakota in Minneapolis and many other venues.
Day is just not into singing and composing music, but he is equally interested in musical theater. In 2005, he got together with Rafe Chase and wrote the full length musical ‘Someday Love', which was presented at San Francisco's New Conservatory Theater. Apart from writing the scores for the musical, Day also starred in it.
In 2004, Spencer came out with his maiden recording ‘Introducing Spencer Day', which was followed by ‘Movie of Your Life' in 2005. It is believed that Day is busy working on his forthcoming album.
