San Jose Earthquakes Tickets The San Jose Earthquakes professional soccer club participates in the top-level soccer league in the United States and Canada, Major League Soccer (MLS). The team is one of three California-based MLS franchises. The Earthquakes first participated in the league from 1996 to 2005, had a brief hiatus in 2006-07, and resumed operations in 2008. San Jose is one of the original ten MLS teams, and was known as the San Jose Clash from 1996 to 1999. The Clash defeated D.C. United 1–0 in the first game in MLS history, while the Earthquakes have won both the MLS Cup (2001, 2003) and the MLS Supporters' Shield (2005) in addition to also finishing as runner-up for the Shield twice (2002-03). Following the end of the 2005 MLS season, the Earthquakes were officially put on hiatus, while the players, head coach, and some of his coaching staff were moved to Houston, Texas, where they became the Houston Dynamo. After San Jose's two-year absence, the Earthquakes resumed play for the 2008 season and currently play their home games at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Having finished in the basement of the Western Conference inn 2009, San Jose was left looking to make some significant offseason changes. Coach Frank Yallop brought in forward Eduardo (96 games and 17 goals for Swiss giants FC Basel from 2005-09) along with mid-fielders Joey Gjertsen (66 games and 4 goals for the Montreal Impact from 2007-09) and Javier Robles (38 games and 3 goals for South America's Club Olimpo from 2007-09). It is this threesome which will be looked upon to provide a significant increase in scoring in order to prevent another long and disappointing season for the many Earthquakes faithful.

 Despite having problems on offense in 2009, the San Jose defense was reliable and should be again in 2010. With goalkeeper Joe Cannon (6-14-8 record, 91 saves) providing some stability, defender Jason Hernandez will need to continue to mature, while mid-fielder Bobby Convey (25 games, 1 goal, 1 assist) needs to find the consistent performance that he often lacked last season. If the Earthquakes remain healthy, and forward Ryan Johnson (27 games, 11 goals, 2 assists) can score more goals than he did last year, this San Jose team may just make a run at a playoff spot once the postseason rolls around. After giving up an MLS-high 50 goals last season, San Jose needed to get its defense in order; something the team looks to have done with the infusion of new talent. This, and a return to good health and good form for Hernandez, would definitely be steps in the right direction, resulting in the Earthquakes have solving their problems defensively.
