Background - Real Salt Lake
This soccer club is owned by Dave Checketts. His sole target is to make this team a successful soccer club, so that it emerges as a brand in itself. Currently, the team plays their home games at the University of Utah's Rice-Eccles Stadium. The term 'Real' in the name is a Spanish derivation that is actually used in the names of some Spanish soccer clubs like Real Madrid. The first Head Coach who was appointed for the team was John Ellinger. He was the former coach of the Under-17 United States national team and also the head of USSF's Bradenton Academy. John Ellinger is still associated with the team but as technical director/director of soccer operations.

 Since its formation, the club has two legitimate and well-established fan clubs known as The Loyalists, and the Rogue Cavaliers Brigade. The team's major rivals are the Colorado Rapids and C.D. Chivas USA. Some of the prominent football players who have played this beautiful game of football for Real Salt Lake are Freddy Adu, Jeff Cunningham, Scott Garlick, Chris Klein, Jason Kreis, Clint Mathis, Eddie Pope, Jafet Soto and Andy Williams. The players have done a lot to make their team one of the best.
The talented players who are included in the current squad according to the data dated July 8, 2007 are Chris Seitz, Daniel Torres, Carey Talley, Kyle Brown, Duke Hashimoto, Ritchie Kotschau, Atiba Harris, Chris Brown, Alecko Eskandarian, Mehdi Ballouchy, Freddy Adu, Nathan Sturgis, Jack Stewart, Steven Curfman, Kenny Cutler, Chris Lancos, Nick Rimando, Willis Forko, Nikolas Besagno, Christian Jimenez, Jamie Watson, Eddie Pope, Kyle Reynish, Jean-Martial Kipre, Dustin Kirby, Robbie Findley, Andy Williams and Matt Wideman. The newly appointed Head Coach, Jason Kreis will lead the team in this calendar year. In spite of being one of the latest additions in the Major League Soccer, the team has done remarkably well in the last two years. For the present season, the team has played very well so far. On June 24th, the team defeated DC United by 2-1 in the USA major League Soccer Cup, while the matches against New York Red Bulls, Colorado and New England remained drawn.
