Background - Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough Cricket team formed the club and after the team participated for two seasons they were promoted to the First Division and maintained their position for 22 years. Their highest league finish was 3rd position in 1913-14. The club won Northern Victory League but could not maintain their good performance in the 1919-20 season. However they maintained their First Division for a few seasons after that. Footballer George Camsell created a record of 59 league goals. He maintained his performance and continued to be a top scorer for the next ten seasons. Middlesbrough maintained their top flight but was transferred to Second Division on the basis of their performance. The team returned to the first division and maintained their position until 1954. It was in 1966 that the team was relegated to the Third Division that was the fist time the team performed at such low division. By 1974 Jack Charlton took charge of the team and propelled it towards the top flight. In their top-flight performance the team acquired some cups and in 1975-76 season won their first silverware as a professional side. Overcoming many financial troubles the club succeeded as one of the popular teams in soccer. Successfully Middlesbrough gained promotions into Division Two and consecutively then into Division One. The club was one of the founder members of the FA Premier League in 1992-93 season. The team gained national attention in 1994 with promotion to the Premier League and with considerably expensive players. The club reached League and FA cup finals in 1996-97 season and landed up as the runners up in the League Cup.

 The club managed to win League Cup final in 2003-04 season, which was the most successful season for the club. The club also qualified for Europe cup, the UEFA Cup, which was the first time. Some of the top scorers for the 2006-07 season were Mark Viduka with 14 goals, Ayegbeni Yakubu with 12 goals, Stewart Downing with 2 goals, Julio Arca with 2 goals, Fabio Rochemback with 2 goals and Emanuel Pogatetz with 2 goals. Middlesbrough defeated Sheff Utd on 1st January 2007 with a score of 3-1, defeated Charlton on 13th January 2007 with a score of 3-1, defeated Bolton on 20th January 2007 with a score of 5-1, defeated Reading on 24th February 2007 with a score of 2-1, defeated Watford on 7th April with a score of 4-1, defeated Wigan on 5th May 2007 with a score of 1-0, defeated Fulham on 13th May 2007 with a score of 3-1.
