Manchester United Football Club is arguably one of the most popular English Professional football clubs with innumerable supporters from all across the world. The club is based at the Old Trafford stadium in Trafford, Greater Manchester. Since the last 20 years the club has been ruling the soccer scene and has received massive success with time. The club has been honored many times including 18 major honors since 1986-1987 season. The club has won 16 Premier League/Football League titles and acquired first position in the Premier League in 2006-07 season. The club was the foremost English Club to win the European Cup by defeating S.L. Benfica in 1968. They also hold maximum FA Cup titles with 11 winnings. The club was initially formed as Newton Heath L&YR F.C., in 1878. It was on 26 April 1902, that the Manchester United officially came into existence. The club participated in the Second Division in 1905-06 and finished at second place. Their foremost league title was achieved in 1908. In the 1908-09 season the club acquired their first ever Charity Shield, followed by club's first FA Cup title. The club won their First Division again in 1910-11. After a period of decline, the club was promoted in 1925. They were relegated again in 1931. Manchester United Football Club finished at second position in the league in 1947, 1948 and 1949 and also won the FA Cup in 1948. Manchester united became the first English team to participate in the European Cup. In 1963, Manchester united won the FA Cup and also won the league in 1965 and 1967. Manchester won the European Cup in 1968 by defeating SL Benfica and also acquired the title of the first English club to win European Cup. Dave Sexton was appointed as the manager in 1977 and changed the style and technique of performance. But the technique failed for the team who were unable to perform better with the new technique. Ron Atkinson was appointed in place of Dave Sexton that led to winning the FA Cup twice, in 1983 and 1985.

The 1998-99 season was one of the most successful seasons for the Manchester United that acquired The Treble, which in layman's term means winning the Premiership, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League, all in the same season. It was the golden era for the team. They were the only English Football team to acquire that great achievement. The team also won 1999 UEFA Champions by defeating Bayern Munich. Manchester United also won the Intercontinental Cup the same season. Since 1999, the team has won many matches and has proved to be one of the toughest teams in the Premier league. They won the league in 2000 and 2001.

The team secured third position in the 2001-02 Premiership season. Manchester also won 2004 FA Cup. The 2006-07 season saw United attacking the football scene with their mind blowing performance and winning the title. Top scorers of the 2006-07 season were Cristiano Ronaldo with 17 goals, Wayne Rooney with 14 goals, Louis Saha with 8 goals, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with 7 goals, Paul Scholes with 6 goals and Ji-Sung Park with 5 goals.
