Background - Los Angeles Galaxy
The initial 'Galaxy' is used in the name to identify Los Angeles as the base of many Hollywood 'stars.' from 1996 till 2002, this soccer club played all their home games at the Rose Bowl. After that they started playing at their own soccer-specific stadium, The Home Depot Center in Carson, California. The Home Depot Center is also shared with Chivas USA. The original colors of the team were teal and gold, but now the teal color has been changed to green. In July 2007, with the arrival of football star David Beckham, the team has undergone a makeover with a new color scheme of blue, gold, and white. The two main supporter clubs for the team are The Galaxians, and the Los Angeles Riot Squad. Their popular mascot is known as "Cozmo," a frog-like extraterrestrial.
Some of the prominent former football players who have left a mark for the team include Chris Armas, Paul Caligiuri, Jorge Campos, Mauricio Cienfuegos, Robin Fraser, Adam Frye, Kevin Hartman, Carlos Hermosillo, Luis Hernández, Andreas Herzog, Eduardo Hurtado, Alexi Lalas, Martín Machon, Curt Onalfo, Clint Mathis, Hong Myung-Bo, Carlos Ruiz and Welton. The team's winning records are very remarkable, with many champions trophy to their credit. They have won the CONCACAF Champions Cup in 2000 and remained Runner-up for 1997, winner of the MLS Cup in 2002 and 2005, while Runner-up in 1996, 1999 and 2001, winner of the MLS Supporters' Shield in 1998 and 2002 and Runner-up in 1996 and 1999.

 As of July 13, 2007, the present squad includes football players like Steve Cronin, Joe Cannon, Mike Randolph, Ty Harden, Ante Jazic, Chris Albright, Kevin Harmse, Chris Klein, Peter Vagenas, Gavin Glinton, Landon Donovan (Captain), Troy Roberts, Cobi Jones, Edson Buddle, Quavas Kirk, Kyle Veris, Abel Xavier, Kyle Martino, Josh Tudela, Carlos Pavon, Alan Gordon, Kelly Gray, David Beckham and Lance Friesz. The players are preparing for the current season under Head Coach Frank Yallop who joined the team in 2006. The team was also the US Open Cup champions in 2001 and 2005, while emerged the runner-up team in 2002 and 2006. On April 24, the Log Angeles Galaxy club defeated Columbus by 1-0 in the U.S. Open Cup. In the USA Major League Soccer, the team defeated Chivas USA by 3-1 on 29thApril, New York Red Bulls by 3 – 1 on 8th May, Real Salt Lake by 3-2 on 17th June and Chicago by 2-0 on July 5th.
