John Houlding founded Liverpool F.C. on 15 March 1892. Initially the club was named Everton Athletic but the idea was dropped and the club was named Liverpool by which they are recognized. The club won Lancashire League that was their first season and participated in the Football League Second Division for the 1893–94 season. After the club achieved victory as the Second Division Champions, they got promoted to the First Division, which is the highest level of English football.
