Background - Houston Dynamo
The team was founded on December 15, 2005 after the relocation of the San Jose Earthquakes, as the owner AEG's was not able to secure a soccer-specific stadium. Though the San Jose's players and coaches moved to Houston, however, no changes were made on the team's name, logo, history and statistics. So, as a result the team was compelled to form a new team Dynamo. The name "Dynamo" reflects the industrial Dynamo of Houston along with the two earlier soccer teams from Houston, the Houston Dynamos of the United Soccer League in 1984 and the Houston Dynamos of the Lone Star Soccer Alliance in 1987-1991. The official reason to go for this name is due to the meaning of the very word. The team is recognized by colors orange, white, and "Space City" blue.
The team plays their entire home matches at Robertson Stadium. The sports stadium with the throbbing capacity of 32,000-seats is situated on the premises of the University of Houston campus in southeast Houston. A three-year lease was signed to allow the team to play at the stadium, but plans are going on to make a soccer-specific stadium for the team. The supporters groups for the club are the Texian Army and El Batallon. Some notable football players who have played with Houston Dynamo are Wade Barrett, Brian Ching, Ricardo Clark, Dwayne De Rosario, Brian Mullan, Pat Onstad, Eddie Robinson, Craig Waibel, Paul Dalglish, Stuart Holden and Joseph Ngwenya. The biggest win for the Houston Dynamo so far is the MLS Cup in 2006.

2009 Season Preview
|
 Houston had a terrific 2008 season, finishing 13-5-12. A record that was atop the Western Conference and gave them the second best record in the MLS. The team failed to win its third straight MLS Cup, managed to also have a strong showing the CONCACAF Champions Cup and the SuperLiga.
The Dynamo won with one of the league's best offensive attacks and an equally average defense. Still, the .13 scoring margin paid its dividends and the Dynamo managed to finish its third straight strong season.
The unquestioned leader for Houston is forward Brian Ching. His 13 goals on 57 shots led the club, while midfielder Dwayne De Rosario was the team's second favorite scoring sensation. The Dynamo have a good feeling coming into the 2009 season with a team that has only known success and has a goalie in Pat Onstad who may be the best in the entire MLS.
