Background - Hannover 96
The club emerged on April 12, 1896 and has since then delivered outstanding results at their home games as well as away games. The club was initially named as Hannoverscher FC 1896 and did not participate officially in football until 1899. It was after their merger with Ballverein Hannovera that the club was named Hannoverscher Sportverein in the year 1896. The team decided their color in early 20th century. The team made their first appearance at country's final rounds in 1935 after which they were recognized as competitive rivals. The Hanover association was dissolved after World War II and came back into the picture in August 1945. The club occupied top-flight in 1949 with their consistent excellent performance. Hannover's victory over FC Kaiserslautern, in 1954, bought them back into the national final scene. The club also features in the amateur championship for which they were honored with the German amateur championships in the year 1960 and 1964. The Hannover 96 football club was promoted to the Bundesliga in 1964. The team performed at the upper level for the longest time and was transferred to 2.Bundesliga Nord for the 1974-75-football season. With their hard work and great performance, the team bounced back again. Despite many financial troubles, the team survived to be one of the most popular teams in the country.

Top six scorers for the 2006-07 season are Arnold Bruggink with 6 goals, Jan Rosenthal with 6 goals, Thomas Brdaric with 5 goals, Szabolcs Huszti with 4 goals, Vahid Hashemian with 4 goals and Jiri Stajner with 3 goals. Hannover 96 defeated Hertha Berlin with a score of 5 - 0 on 31st January 2007, defeated Alemania Aachen on 3rd February 2007 with a score of 1 - 4, defeated Bayer Leverkusen with a score of 0 - 1 on 17th February 2007, Defeated Borussia Dortmund with 4 - 2 on 24th February 2007, defeated Borussia M'gladbach with a score of 1 - 0 on 22nd April 2007, defeated Mainz with a score of 1 - 2 on 28th April 2007 and defeated Energie Cottbus with a score of 2 - 0 on 4th May 2007. With most of the victories in 2007, the team is all prepared to face the challenges for the upcoming soccer season.
