The club originated back in September 29, 1887 when two clubs Der Hohenfelder Sportclub and Wandsbek-Marienthaler Sportclub collaborated together to form Sports Club Germania. Hamburg SV club was initially formed as Hamburger Sport-Verein in 1919 by mixture of Sports Club Germania, Hamburger FC and FC Falke. The club has always maintained their excellent performance by being the oldest and most experienced football clubs in Germany. Hamburg SV Club quickly captured the Soccer scene by being one of the most competitive and enthusiastic football team in 1922 during the national finals played against 1. FC Nürnberg. Deutscher Fussball Bund or German Football Association awarded the Hamburg SV with victory but urged the team to refuse the title due to the draw in the match. The team was awarded for their good sportsmanship and refused the title and the Viktoria trophy.

The team also enjoyed victory over Nurnberg on 12th May 2007 and Alemania Aachen on 19th May 2007 with a score of 0 - 2 and 0 - 4 respectively.
