Background - Derby County Fc
Derby County FC took part in their first Football Association Challenge Club, popularly known as the FA cup on April 16, 1898 at Crystal Palace. But they lost the match 3-1 against Nottingham Forest. In 1899 also Derby County FC reached the final of FA cup but they were defeated by Sheffield United 4-1. Bury too defeated them in the FA cup final 6-0 held on 16th April, 1903. Derby County FC could not prove their mettle and as a result they were relegated to the Second Division Football League in 1907. But under the management of Jimmy Methven they managed to re-sign Steve Bloomer and regained their their first division place in 1911.
In 1914, Derby County FC was relegated again to the Second Division Football League. But in no time, they won the Second Division to get prompted. But unfortunately they were relegated again to the Second Division FC just after two seasons of play. But this time they bounced back forcefully. With constantly high finishes, the club became a formidable force from the late 1920s all through 1939-1940 season. In 1931-1932 season, the club finished second in the First Division League Football Competition.

2006 Season Preview

 In the years 1945-1946, the FA Cup restarted. Derby County FC reached and won the final by defeating Charlton Athletic 4-1 after the extra time. But after that Derby could not reproduce their form and were eventually relegated in 1953. Things went from bad to worse; they were relegated to the Third Division North for the first time in their history in 1955. The following season they managed to get some consolation as they finished second at the first attempt. Next season they bettered it by finishing first.
Good days for Derby County FC came as Brian Clough took over Derby with assistant manager Peter Taylor. They led Derby to some of their greatest victories. In 1969, Derby were promoted to the First Division and won their first ever Championship in 1972. Albeit Derby did not retain their title the following season, they reached the semi-finals of the European Cup and lost to Juventus. The match was controversial as allegation of offering bribe to the match officials by the Italian Club came into focus. Clough called the Italians "cheating bastards" and left the club 1973. Derby's ranking came down day after day, tournament after tournament.
In 1996-1997, Derby County FC made an excellent Premiership debut finishing 12th in the final table. The next two seasons were also not that bad for the club. The Rams finished 16th at the end of the 1999-2000 Premiership campaign. In the 2003-2004 First Division campaign, Derby finished 20th but improved dramatically and finished 4th in the Football League Championship held in 2004-2005.
Today, the club comprises many star players like Michael Johnson, Richard Jackson, Matthew Oakley, Nathan Doyle, Lee Holmes, Lionel Ainsworth etc. John Kirkland is the current President of the club while Peter Gadsby and Mike Horton are the Chairman and Managing Director respectively.
