Background - Columbus Crew
Presently, the Columbus Crew usually plays all their home games at Columbus Crew Stadium that is the first MLS soccer specific stadium in the whole world. The Columbus Crew forever etched its place in American Sports History by christening Columbus Crew Stadium. During the period of 1996-1999, the soccer team used to play their home games at Ohio Stadium that is located at the campus of Ohio State University. The team got the name 'Crew' from a local fan contest and the name signifies the blue-collar community of Columbus. The two major support groups that the Columbus Crew have are "Hudson Street Hooligans" and "Crew Supporters Union: Local 103". Most of the Columbus Crew home matches are telecast locally on Columbus Sports Network. The colors of the team are black and gold, while their mascot is Crew Cat.

2007 Season Preview

 Till date there is only one tournament that the Columbus Crew has won. It was the 2002 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup where they defeated the 2002 MLS Cup and Supporter's Shield winner Los Angeles Galaxy by 1–0. By the way, the Columbus Crew has also reached one more final match, the 1998 Open Cup. That is not the only championship that the Columbus Crew team has won ever. The team has won the Supporter's Shield for the year 2004 for having the best record over the course of the regular season. The Columbus Crew organization does not confine its efforts to the field of play only. There is a lot more beyond wins, losses and entertainment. The main motive of this soccer club is to make a difference in its community with their efforts.
Notable players like Edson Buddle, Daniel Torres, Jon Busch, Jeff Cunningham, Thomas Dooley, Ansil Elcock, Robin Fraser, Brad Friedel, John Harkes, Stern John, Doctor Khumalo, Brian Maisonneuve, Kyle Martino, Brian McBride, Billy Thompson, John Wilmar Perez, Robert Warzycha and Guillermo Barros Schelotto have represented the Columbus Crew from time to time. Apart from Sigi Schind, the other coaches were Timo Liekoski for 1996, Tom Fitzgerald for 1996–2001, Greg Andrulis from 2001 to 2005 and Robert Warzycha for 2005.
The players who have been selected for the 2007 MLS Season are Robbie Rogers, Brad Evans, Andy Herron, Will Hesmer, Stefani Miglioranzi, Danny O'Rourke, Guillermo Barros Schelotto, Alejandro Moreno, Ryan Junge, Ben Hunter and Andrew Peterson. The players were trained under the guidance of head coach, Sigi Schmid. Most of the matches played in the current season ended with scoreboards showing drawn results. Matches played against New York Red Bulls, Real Salt Lake, and New England for USA Major League Soccer was ended with any winning team. Bit it does not mean that the team has not won any matches. Columbus Crew has won against DC United by 1-0, Kansas City by 2-1, Log Angeles by 3-2 and New York Red Bulls by 1-0.
