Columbus Crew Tickets The Columbus Crew is one of the first clubs of Major League Soccer – founded in 1994 and playing in the first MLS season in 1996. The Crew was owned by the legendary Lamar Hunt, who also owned the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs and FC Dallas, also of the MLS, until his death in 2006, after which his son Clark Hunt took over all of his father's sports properties. The club currently plays their home games at Columbus Crew Stadium (cap. 20,455) in Columbus, Ohio – the first soccer-specific stadium ever built by an MLS franchise. The Columbus Crew enters the 2010 season as one of the more dominant MLS teams in recent years. The Crew won the Supporters' Shield for having the best record during the regular season for the past two years, with 2008 capped off with an MLS Cup victory. The 2009 season ended with a shocking loss to Real Salt Lake in the first round of the playoffs. The Crew re-signed former league MVP and team-leading goal-scorer Guillermo Barros Schelotto (24 games, 12 goals, 3 assists, 3 game-winning goals, 3 of 4 penalty kicks made) this offseason and have nearly their entire team returning from 2009. Although, with Schelotto turning 37 this year, many are left to wonder just how much productivity the Crew will get from their star player this year. The Crew were just knocked out of the very competitive CONCACAF Champions League by a very strong Toluca (Mexico) squad, but having played competitive games against strong competition should provide the Crew with an advantage over other MLS teams who are coming off friendlies against teams of only average quality.
