Background - Colorado Rapids
From 1996 till 2001, the Colorado rapids played all their home matches at Mile High Stadium and later for the 2002 season moved into INVESCO Field at Mile High. The Dick's Sporting Goods Park located in the Denver suburb of Commerce City is the current ground where the team plays. The Colorado Rapids have honored three players into the club's Gallery of Honor till date. The players are Marcelo Balboa, Paul Bravo and Chris Henderson. There was a total makeover in the image of the players. The players are now seen in the field all geared up in any uniforms that showcases a burgundy jersey, white shorts, and burgundy socks. Earlier the players were seen in green kits and at times in black and blue. The noblest supporters' groups for the Colorado Rapids include Jolly Green Men, the River Ratz and Class VI. Both Jolly Green Men and River Ratz are not active today and the latest group that has entered the scene is the Centennial Firm.

 Some of the prominent football players who have been associated with Colorado Rapids at different points of time include Marcelo Balboa, Shaun Bartlett, Paul Bravo, Joe Cannon, Mark Chung, Robin Fraser, Marcus Hahnemann, Chris Henderson, Aitor Karanka, Anders Limpar, Pablo Mastroeni, Clint Mathis, Adrian Paz, John Spencer, Steve Trittschuh, Carlos Valderrama, Jorge Dely Valdes and Chris Woods. The current roster for the Colorado Rapids as of April 18, 2007 have players like Bouna Coundoul, Jordan Harvey, Facundo Erpen, Dan Gargan, Kyle Beckerman, Brandon Prideaux, Jovan Kirovski, Jose Cancela, Herculez Gomez, Terry Cooke, Mike Petke, Stephen Keel, Omar Cummings, Jacob Peterson, Ugo Ihemelu, Nicolas Hernandez, Nico Colaluca, Nick La Brocca, Colin Clark, Pablo Mastroeni (captain), Conor Casey, Kosuke Kimura, John DiRaimondo, Justin Hughes, Zach Thornton and Daniel Wasson. The team is playing under the directions of the Head Coach Fernando Clavijo who has been with the team since 2005.
The Colorado Rapids failed to qualify for the playoffs for the second season in a row in 2008. This was only made worse by the fact that the team did not participate in any international competition as well. The fourth place finish in the Western Conference was not good enough for a postseason appearance thanks to an 11-14-5 record.
The team suffered from an inability to stop shots. Though the team was able to score the fifth most goals in the league, they allowed the third most goals and were the victims more often than the victor. Bouna Coundoul needs to play a complete season to help reverse these defensive woes.
Conor Casey, Colin Clark, Terry Cooke, and Omar Cummings need to keep up the work attacking the opposition. This franchise has not had a terribly successful history, but the Western Conference is in enough of a free for all that the Rapids could establish themselves as a top team in the league with one of the best young goalies.
