Background - Chivas Usa
The club was founded in 2004 and is co-owned by Antonio Cué and Jorge Vergara, who also own the Mexican Club Deportivo Guadalajara and Deportivo Saprissa of Costa Rica. The team plays its entire home games along with the Log Angeles Galaxy at The Home Depot Center. In fact, the team shares the same colors of red, white, and navy blue as that of Guadalajara club. The team is very popular amongst the Latino or more specifically Mexican people. The sponsor of CD Chivas USA is Comex, which is a well known Mexican paint company. The logo of the company is used on the front of the jersey of the team. All the home games are played in a nearby small city Carson.

2009 Season Preview
|
 Jorge Vergara while founding the team gave much stress on making Spanish, the main language of the team. This is quite evident in the team's marketing slogan that was prepared for its inaugural campaign in 2005. The English version of the Chivas USA's marketing slogan says "Chivas USA: It's in Your Blood". However, Jorge Vergara did not make any hard and fast rule for the team to be composed entirely of Latin players. The first coach appointed for Chivas USA was Thomas Rongen. Just after the conclusion of the 2005 campaign, Hans Westerhof was replaced with Bob Bradley who was the former head coach for MetroStars and Chicago Fire. The 2006 season proved to be a major turnaround for CD Chivas USA, which finished in third place in the MLS Western Conference. Some of the notable players associated with CD Chivas USA are Martin Zuniga, Juan Pablo Garcia, Juan Francisco Palencia, Ramon Ramirez, Ante Razov and Claudio Suarez.
Last season the C.D. Chivas USA season ended with a record of 12-11-7 and a trip to the postseason. The team started out well, but the Olympics beckoned and their star midfielder Sacha Kjestan joined the U.S. National Team in China. The team also sold the contract to Brad Guzan to Alston Villa F.C., by the end of the year the club had rallied around what was left on the roster and finished second in the Western Conference and made the playoffs for the third straight year. The MLS Cup playoffs lasted until the semi-finals.
This season the C.D. Chivas USA squad will have to improve offensively and defensively to make it more than just a playoff appearance in 2009. The team will need someone to step up and put the ball in the net. Alecko Eskandarian, Scha Kjestan, and Ante Razov are the most likely to improve the team's ranking from the middle of the pack to a real force around the opponent's net.
The defense will need to find an adequate solution for goalkeeper as Guzan is now gone. The team finished in the middle of the pack without the stellar play of Guzan. The Western Conference is as up for grabs as it has ever been and this could be Chivas USA season to win the MLS Cup.
