Background - Chelsea Fc
Chelsea Football Club was founded in 1905. Stamford Bridge, London is its home ground. It was planned by Archibald Leitch. The owners preferred to form Chelsea to occupy their new ground. Thus, Chelsea was started for Stamford Bridge. The club was selected into the Second Division at the Football League in 1905. It won its first home match against Liverpool 4â€â€Å"0. Its summit trip was swift. Chelsea achieved the FA Cup runners up in 1915.
Ted Drake, ex-Arsenal and England centre-forward appointed as manager in 1952. Improving the youth arrangement and upgrading the side, he guided Chelsea to their first most important trophy victory, the League championship in 1954â€â€Å"55. The team was lovingly acknowledged as 'Drake's Ducklings.' The late 1950s witness an exciting crop of youngsters budding from the youth set-up like Jimmy Greaves, Bobby Tambling and Terry Venables.In 1961 Tommy Docherty as manager took Chelsea to advertising with a new, youth-orientated team. It ushered in a period that saw football merging with matchless style in the heart of London. A new Chelsea oozing charisma and class built up a major fan following.

2006 Season Preview

 A great Chelsea team emerged in the early 1970s including Ron 'Chopper' Harris, Charlie Cooke, Ian Hutchinson and Peter Osgood. It won the 1970 FA Cup winners, hammering Leeds United in an effervescent final. The UEFA Cup Winners' tag was added the following year. It was Chelsea's opening European reputation over Real Madrid in Athens.
The 1975 saw the club falling to its nadir. Financial problems, fan violence etc affected its performance. Chairman Ken Bates fought hard and Chelsea got the Second Division title. John Hollins soon took over. Despite having a squad of unremarkable players Hollins exceeded expectations. They finished 6th in 1985â€â€Å"86.In 1988, they were relegated to second class. Hollins' replacement Bobby Campbell guided them to the Second Division title collecting 99 points.
Glenn Hoddle, the ex-national coach of England took charge in 1993. They finished 14th in the Premiership. They reached the FA Cup final, but lost 4â€â€Å"0 to Manchester United. In 1995, though Chelsea finished 11th, yet its run to the Cup Winners' Cup stirred all. They had another high-quality FA Cup run in 1996. The following season saw many top class players being added to the side. The list boasts Italian international trio Gianluca Vialli, Roberto Di Matteo and Gianfranco Zola. They won the FA Cup instantly. Italian striker Vialli as player-manager guided the side to a dream as victor of both the League Cup and the Cup Winners' title. Chelsea, in 1998â€â€Å"99, became third in the premiership. In 2000, Chelsea was champs of the FA Cup final at the old Wembley Stadium defeating Aston Villa.

In June 2003, Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich acquired Chelsea in the biggest-ever deal of an English football club. Soon more than £100 million was put forth on players like Claude Makelele, Joe Cole, Hernan Crespo and Damien Duff. They became runners-up in the Premiership of that year. In 2004, successful Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho took over. With it began the glorious period of the club. It celebrated its centenary year in style by winning Premiership title earning most points ever. They were also League Cup winners with a 3â€â€Å"2 victory over Liverpool. Even they reached the Champions League semi-finals. The subsequent year, they were once more League Champions, with a Premiership record of 29 wins. They signed £10 million a year shirt sponsorship deal with Samsung in 2005. This was the biggest shirt sponsorship in English football history of that time.
On April 29, 2006, Chelsea achieved their second successive Premiership title beating Manchester United 3-0. On May 30th striker Andriy Shevchenko was signed for AC Milan. He was followed by German captain Ballck.
