Background - Charlton Athletic
Charlton Athletic started performing professionally in 1920 and enjoyed their top flight of English football. The club entered the Football League, with many other professional football clubs, in the year 1921. Charlton participated in the FA Cup final twice, and achieved victory in 1947. Charlton Athletic became a major side of Charlton by joining the Lewisham League. Their foremost Football League match victory was against Exeter City, in August 1921. In 1929, Club achieved victory at Division Three championship and was promoted to Division two levels where they maintained their position for four years.1937 saw Charlton finishing as runners up in the First Division. For over three seasons, the Charlton's were one of the most consistent teams in the country. By being promoted to the fist division the team were finalists in the 1946 FA Cup but were disappointed. Their matches have witnessed very large supporters during a full season. Their Home stadium, The Valley is packed with supporters during their home games. The club maintained their position in the second division until early 1970s however they were transferred to the third division in 1972. The team continuously fluctuated between second and third division but displayed their excellent gaming action throughout.

2007 Season Preview

 The end of 1985–86, Charlton was promoted to First Division, by securing runners-up position in the second division. The team maintained their position in the first division position and displayed their outstanding talents. 1992–93 began promisingly and the team enjoyed their position. With many fluctuations, 1997–98 was the best season for the team where they won Division One playoff final. The same year they were promoted to the Premier League. Some great honors received by the team are FA Cup runners up in 1946 and winners in 1947, Football League champions in 1999/2000, Football League runners up in 1936/37, Division One play-off winners in 1997/98, Division Two runners up for 1935/36 season and 1985/86 season, Division Three (South) champions for 1928/29 season and 1934/35, Division Three (promoted) for 1974/75 season and 1980/81 season, Full Members Cup finalists for the year 1987.
