Background - Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich club was founded in 1900 by members Munich gymnastics club. It played first in the regional Bayern league. The first success came in 1926 as the champions of southern Germany. It was repeated two years later. They gained first national honor in 1932, winning the national championship. After the war Bayern joined the southern conference of the then spilted German first division. In 1956, the club returned to the Oberliga.It won the German Cup.

 In its first Bundesliga season Bayern finished third qualifying for the European Cup. They won it in the following year. Bayern's zenith triumph was in European Champions Cup final, 1974 against Altico Madrid. In the following season it defended the European title. A year later in Glasgow, Bayern won the trophy consecutively thrice. Bayern also won the Intercontinental Cup defeating Brazilian club Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte. The Bundesliga title was again won in 1980 and 1981. Bayern won the 1984 cup and went to win 5 championships in 6 seasons. They were European Cup runners-up in 1982 and 1987. Franz Beckenbauer took over in the 1993-94 season and won the Championship after 3 years. It won the 1996 UEFA Cup. It won a third consecutive Bundesliga title in 2001. Later, the club won the European Cup fourth time. The Allianz Arena, the home ground is world's most modern football stadium.
