Background - Aston Villa
Being one of the oldest and one of the most successful Clubs in the country, Aston Villa Football Club has enjoyed some major victories and few defeats. The Club holds the title of First Division Championship and the FA Cup both seven times. They are also the winners of the European Cup, in 1982. With having won 21 major honors in their Basket, Aston Villa has made a huge name for them in the Soccer scene. One of their major rivals is Birmingham City. The club originated in March 1874 by Jack Hughes, Frederick Matthews, Walter Price and William Scattergood. Soon the team acquired the place as one of the best teams in the Midlands. Their first major honor was the Birmingham Senior Cup that they won in 1880. One of the oldest football associations, Aston Villa won their first FA Cup in 1887. The club has innumerable League titles and FA Cup wins up their sleeves. The club was transferred to the Second Division, in 1936. Declining performance of the club was one of the aftermaths of the World War. The club lost their most successful players but re-emerged into the soccer season with guidance from former player Alex Massie. Their amazing come back in the top flight was in 1960 when the team returned as the Second Division Champions. In 1971, returned to the second division as Champions and continued their way to First Division and Europe in 1977. Managed by Ron Saunders, the team was pulled through a declining phase. The team stepped into the second place in the football League, in 1989. Despite their changing managers, the team continues to rule the soccer scene today. It was for the first time since 1957, that the club reached the FA Cup final, in 2000.

Aston Villa defeated Watford with a score of 2 - 0 on 20th January 2007, defeated West Ham with a score of 1 - 0 on 3rd February 2007, defeated Blackburn with a score of 1 - 2 on the 7th April 2007, defeated Middlesbrough with a score of 1 - 3 on the 14th April 2007, defeated Man City with a score of 0 - 2 on 28th April, defeated Sheff Utd with a score of 3 - 0 on 5th May 2007.
