Background - Alemannia Aachen
The club was formed by a group of young eighteen high school students, who initially named the group as FC Aachen but later on was named FC Alemannia after the name of their country. In early 1919 Alemannia Football club merged with Aachener Turnverein another football club formed in 1847 to become TSV Alemannia Aachen in 1900. The club separated in 1924 for the second time after their first split during the World War I. The group had frequent contact with football clubs of Belgian and Dutch origin. They won their first championship in 1907, in Rhineland-Westphalia FA against Belgian. Slowly and steadily they expanded their activities. The club stepped into a larger frame of the soccer game and qualified for Rheingauliga match in 1921. Soon after this progress, Alemannia Aachen decided to build their own stadium for comfortable home games, in 1928. During the early 30s, Alemannia advanced to the final four of the Westdeutsche championship.
The late 30s and early 40s saw moderate progress of the football team and progressed to national final rounds in 1938. The club was promoted to the Bundesliga level for the 1967-68 season. It has since then impressed their fans with constant successful games. Some of the famous players of the club are Jupp Derwall, Torsten Frings, Willi Landgraf, Erik Meijer, Karlheinz Pflipsen, Erik van der Luer, Horacio Troche, Jo Montanes, Mark Rudan, 'Iron Reinhold' Muenzenberg and a few more. Alemannia Aachen plays at their home field Tivoli, which has a capacity of 21,632 spectators per event. The Alemannia Aachen club has been honored with German vice-champions in 1969 and German Cup finalist for 1953, 1965 and 2004.
