So You Think You Can Dance?
As of 2006 it was the #1 rated show, especially the age group between 18-49. Lauren Sánchez hosted the first season, however the present host of the show is Cat Deeley. In August 2006, it was declared that there would be various versions of the show in New Zealand, Turkey, Israel, Malaysia, and Norway, with many other countries working on it.
Auditions of the show are held across the major cities of the US, exploring top dancers in each city. The most exciting fact of the show is that, all types of dance backgrounds are promoted to audition. Ranging from salsa, ballroom, hip-hop, street dancing, contemporary, jazz, ballet and many other types. A huge number of youth comes forward to win the grand prize. The prizes in the past have included a new Hybrid SUV, $100,000 in cash, and a dancing role in Celine Dion's Las Vegas show of US$250,000 and very obviously the title of 'America's favorite dancer'.
A wide array of dance forms has been featured on the auditions of the show. Any style of dance is permitted, including jazz, belly dancing, clogging, contemporary, pop, modern, American jive, swing, disco, locking, popping, bboying, old and new school hip hop, krumping, paso doble, quickstep, lyrical, Broadway, Viennese waltz, smooth waltz, Argentine tango, mambo, cha cha, Cuban rumba, salsa and West Coast Swing. The show comprises of three judges, two of which are always producer Nigel Lythgoe and choreographer Mary Murphy. Guest professional dancers and choreographers occupy the remaining judging seats. All of the notable guest judges that visited the show include Dan Karaty, Shane Sparks, Wade Robson, Brian Friedman, Ron Montez, Doriana Sanchez, Nu Stylz, Jean-Marc Genereux, Mia Michaels, Debbie Allen, and Adam Shankman.
The auditions for Season 3 started in the beginning of March 2007, and took place in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Atlanta. Likewise the prior seasons, those that make the cuts proceed to Las Vegas. The taped auditions were broadcasted on the Fox Network in the United States on May 24, 2007, and the succeeding shows will be taped and shown live for a 12-week season. $250,000 cash has increased the prize for the winner. Each year the show is looking forward for some advancement, along with giving a golden opportunity for rising talents.
