Sixpence None The Richer
Sixpence None the Richer is a pop and rock band originally from New Braunfels, Texas, but went on to settle in Nashville, Tennessee. The band named them after a passage in C. S. Lewis' famous work "Mere Christianity".
It all started when Guitarist and songwriter Matt Slocum met the vocalist Leigh Bingham Nash at a church retreat sometime in the early 1990s. They went on to record a demo, which now famously circulates as "The Original Demos" and later went on to record an album, their first album. It was named "The Fatherless and the Widow," and was recorded in the year 1993 for R.E.X. Records. The record featured Chris Dodds on drums. He was well known for his association with Slocum's band Love Coma. Eventually after the release of this album, Slocum went on to leave Love Coma to join Sixpence none the richer full time. Next the band added Tess Wiley, who was a guitarist, J.J. Plasencio on the bass and Dale Baker on the drums for 1995 releases "This Beautiful Mess." Both these albums were produced by well known producer Armand John Petri.
