The city of Sioux Falls is located in the state of South Dakota, United States. Sioux Falls lies in the counties of Minnehaha and Lincoln, and is also the county seat of the former. According to 2000 United States Census, the population of the city stands at 123,975. However, as per 2008 estimates, the population has gone up to 153,100, making it the most populous city in South Dakota.

Sioux Falls is a part of the 'Sioux Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area' and is also a principal city of the same. It is situated on the banks of the river of Sioux, on the famous prairies. In the year 1992, the city got the major honor of being named 'the best place to live in America' by Money Magazine, due to its healthy economy, low unemployment and crime rate. As per the United States Census Bureau, the city covers a total area of 56.3 square miles, of which 99.96% is land.

The city of Sioux Falls is regarded by many as the regional center of the entire region and is merely 15 and 8 miles away from the Minnesota and Iowa border, respectively.
