Sigur Ros is a band from Iceland. The band consists of guitarist and vocalist Jon Thor Birgisson, bassist Georg Holm, and drummer Agust. The band became a union in 1994 when the three were in their teens. The trio began their musical journey early, their first recorded song earned them a records deal with Iceland's label Bad. The band released their debut LP, 'Von' which was released in 1997. The released a remixed version of the album the following year titled 'Recycle Bin.' The band were later joined by Kjartan Sveinsson on the keyboards.
Sigur Ros recorded their next album in 1999 titled ''Agaetis Byrjun.' The album was a big success and earning the band numerous accolades in Iceland. The album also reached platinum sales. The band's drummer Agust then departed and was quickly replaced by Orri Pall Dyrason. They made their overseas debut with 'Svefn-G-Englar.' The song were hailed as NME's Single of the Week during September, 1999. The next single to be released was 'The 'Ny Battery' in early 2000. The year was their most promising and they were picked up by British independent label Fat Cat. The British label began distributing the band and took the band's music to new markets.
