Robin Thicke

Robin Thicke

Robin Thicke

Robin Thicke had a lot to overcome before he could become a successful recording artist. He did grow up in a neighborhood that put his survival against the odds, but did grow up as the son of Alan Thicke, the actor who played the patriarch on Growing Pains. Robin, born on March 10, 1977, still managed to overcome the name of his father and break out in a big way, selling albums, concert tickets, and winning a Grammy Award in the process.

Though his father's famous name may have been a barrier, his father's taste in music was indeed a helpful factor in Robin's career. His father started out as a disc jockey and had helped produce musical segments for shows at times in his career. The musical background and an exposure to performers like Bruce Springsteen gave Robin Thicke the background to build a solid musical foundation.

His journey into the music business began in 2000. Then he simply went by the name Thicke. Under just his surname he released his debut album, Cherry Clue Skies, in 2002. The album was more blue-eyed soul than pop. The album was a critical hit and featured songs used for movies. When I Get You Alone was his first single and the video was played on MTV2 and BET. Robin was not selling many Thicke tickets, but he did manage to win a Grammy for his collaboration with Usher on 2004's confessions.
