Riders In The Sky was formed 28 years back and is a Western music group whose fun-filled performances have enthralled the audiences from all age groups. Formerly, Ranger Doug was a member of Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys. Not only this, he has also been a country music journalist working at the Country Music Foundation Press and later also became the editor of the Journal of Country Music. Woody Paul played with Loggins Messina, and Too Slim was a member of Dickey Lee's band in addition to being a songwriter. They used to play gig at a Nashville nightclub and later that led to a slot on Tumbleweed Theater on cable television's Nashville Network (TNN). In the mid 90's "Cowpolka King" Joey Miskulin joined the band, on accordion.

Riders In The Sky released their first recording debut Three on the Trail in the year 1979 on the Rounder label. It set a new trend for that kind of pattern for their mix of classic and newly composed sentimental western numbers, crack swing instrumental work as well as parodies similar to the Legend of Palindrome. In the 80's, they released consecutively five albums on MCA. They then appeared in the biographical film of Patsy Cline, in Sweet Dreams. They took a short break and came back with their next album Riders Radio Theater, which they later released in MCA in 1987. The album unexpectedly was a huge success. This success led them to the program Riders Radio Theater that used to come in National Public Radio. By then the group was already famous for their performances on Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion program. They thought of making a children's album and in 1991, the Riders moved to CBS to release their children's album Harmony Ranch. It led to a show in CBS-TV Saturday-morning television, but it was short-lived. In the 2000, the group signed up with Rounder and also many other labels and did a number of recording for them. Among all those releases, Great Big Western Howdy! and Christmas the Cowboy Way in 1998 and 1999 respectively. In the year 2000, they released Woody's Roundup: A Rootin' Tootin' Collection of Woody's Favorite Songs and 2002's A Pair of Kings, which was critical acclaimed. These two releases also showcased the impressive instrumental talents of both Miskulin and Paul. Eiders In The Sky are known to pull crowds wherever they went. They are known as one of the most hardest working musical acts in showbiz and also one of the most educated, Douglas has a Masters degree in literature, Too Slim has a Masters degree in Wildlife Management, and Paul has a PhD in Nuclear Physics.
