Ricardo Arjona full name is Edgar Ricardo Arjona Morales. He was born in the year 1964 in Antigua Guatemala. His parents moved to Guatemala City, when he was only three years old. When he was only eight years old, he learned to play the guitar well. When he was 12 years old Ricardo sang in 'Juventud 74 Children's Festival', that was organized by Don Bosco Salesian School in Guatemala and won that event. He was also good at basketball and used to play at the Guatemalan national team. As a basketball player, he also holds the record for most points scored in a single game. Before taking up singing seriously as his career he also worked as a teacher from the year 1983 to 1988. After that, he moved to Mexico to shape his career in singing.

What makes his songs unique is that he doesn't follow any particular genre of music, he is popular for his songs' intricate wordplay. Sometimes, some people categorize him as a Spanish pop, but he is best known for his political and social satire. Recently, he was awarded the ASCAP Latin Heritage Award by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), for his outstanding contribution to Latin music, when they celebrated their 14th Annual Latin Music Awards. The event is one of the most prestigious, most attended as well as one of the most celebrated events in the Latin community. Some of the other recipients (past) of this awards are Antonio Aguilar, Celia Cruz, José Feliciano, Ednita Nazario, Arturo Sandoval, Gilberto Santa Rosa and Olga Tañn. He was also nominated, on 2nd November, 2006 for Record of The Year, Song of The Year and Best Male Pop Vocal Album for 'Adentro.' He also received the Best Male Pop Vocal Album, his first ever Latin Grammy Award.

Ricardo Arjona has kept alive the singer-songwriter tradition of social and interpersonal commentary, not only in his own community but also around the world. 'Acompáñame A Estar Solo', by Ricardo Arjona was the record of the year, and also was adjudged as the Song Of The Year.
