Artist Biography - Reckless Kelly
|
Willy and Cody Braun formed the band in January 1997 in Bend, OR, before moving to Austin, TX. The brothers had started singing from an early age; in fact they were part of the band â€ËÅ"Muzzie Braun and the Boys,' which was headed by their father Muzzie Braun. The father and son trio along with other band members performed western swing regionally as well as at the Grand Ole Opry, and The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. When the brothers entered their late teens, they got attracted towards rock and roll and subsequently formed their own high school band. However the band was not very successful and soon broke up. After sometime they met Nazz and reformed the band. The band with the new lineup helped the brothers develop their own sound. Reckless Kelly before moving to Austin, Texas played their last show in the Pacific Northwest which was a huge hit. After a good response and positive frame of mind the reincarnated band shifted to Austin, Texas to make a mark in the music world.
Austin had much more to offer than Bend, Oregon which had little to offer in terms of gigs and venues. In Austin the band could take to stage seven nights a week. The entire band members resided in the same house as their musical taste and habits were similar. The Reckless Kelly practiced throughout the day and ventured out only for nightly gigs. After some time to further solidify the lineup, Reckless Kelly added guitarist David Abeyta and bassist Jimmy McFeeley to its arsenal. After months of gigging around, finally in 1998 the band came out with its first album â€ËÅ"Millican'. The independent album sold more than 20,000 units, and the Austin Chronicle named the band the 'Best Roots Rock Band' three years in a row. The maiden album was soon followed by a live album, and another studio album. The band then went on to sign a recording deal with Sugar Hill, and came out with Under the Table and Above the Sun albums in 2003. The highly popular albums were followed by Wicked Twisted Road in 2005. The band came out with yet another live album â€ËÅ"Reckless Kelly Was Here' in 2006. This record too did quite well and slowly and steadily with grit and determination Reckless Kelly has cemented its position in the music world.
