The city of Raleigh is the capital of the state North Carolina. Raleigh falls in the counties of Wake and Durham and is the county-seat of the same. According to the 2008 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the city stands at 380,173, making it the second most populous city in North Carolina as well as the 15th fastest growing city in the United States in terms of population.

Raleigh is situated in the northeastern portion of North Carolina and is merely three hours distance from Atlantic Beach. As per the United States Census Bureau, the city covers a total area of 115.6 square miles, of which 99.16% is land.
