Placebo
Placebo is a hugely popular rock band which was formed in 1994. They had very high early success in U.K. because of the high interest in people for the British rock music at that particular time. This interest was particularly sparked by Blur and Oasis.
Placebo was founded by former Luxembourg mates of school, Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal. They actually met accidentally at the South Kensington tube station sometime in 1994 and resoluted to form a band. Briefly known as the Ashtray Heart, they later named their band as Placebo. The band was undecided on the drummer for the band and managed with Steve Hewitt and Robert Schultzberg serving as the alternative drummers. While Hewitt was their preferred first choice, he was not always available as he had commitment as a drummer to London based band "Breed", resulting in Schultzberg becoming the drummer. The band signed its first contract with Caroline Records. Later as a result of other band members having difficulty getting on with the drummer Robert Schultzberg, Hewitt was again persuaded to rejoin the band and he did so in the year 1996. The band eventually also gained some notoriety for the sexualities of its constituent members (like Olsdal is gay, Molko is bisexual and Hewitt is straight).

Artist Biography - Placebo
|
The band's hugely popular singles were "Nancy Boy", from the album Placebo in the year 1996, and "Pure Morning", from "Without You I'm Nothing" in the year 1998. Those were the days of the peak of their success in the Britain, with both songs charting in the top ten. Since that time the band has fallen out particularly with the British music press. However, the band has managed to retain a huge popular and critical following in the parts of continental Europe. The reason for downfall has been their little altered style from their first album Placebo through to Black Market Music released in year 2000. The particular characteristics have been fairly straightforward guitar playing, seemingly influenced by the 1970s American and British rock bands, and Molko's very high-pitched vocals.
The band also appeared in T. Rex's "20th Century Boy" for the movie Velvet Goldmine of the 1998's, in which they featured themselves also. Placebo also played "20th Century Boy" in a concert with David Bowie at the live Brit Awards show in year 1999.
Their next feature sleeping with Ghosts in year 2003 was sort of more adventurous. Here the band experimented with dance influences and used a less polished guitar.
They are coming again now, back with their tour and music. It is sure to be entertaining and lively, so book your tickets now! To save your energies and time, online booking is also available.
