An inspiration of two minds together classically-trained pianist Thomas M. Lauderdale and vocalist China Forbes made the dream of "Pink Martini" in 1994. They fused a variety of music spanning
Cuban jazz to music hall to film scores, this group sharpened an amazing & exotic sound. This new sound made them to release their debut LP "Sympathique" in 1997. This album was recorded by their own label "Heinz Records" which was named after Lauderdale's dog in 1997. Pink Martini was originated in Portland. Oregon. It comprises 12 ardent members. Their first album "Sympathique" gained lot of popularity & praise all over world. It can be seen by the fact that over 650,000 copies of the record have been sold worldwide. In addition to this, the band has performed their European debut at the Cannes Film Festival. They toured for the promotion of their album and arranged many live shows in France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Switzerland, Monte Carlo, Greece, Turkey, Taiwan, Lebanon and the United States, among other countries.
After seven years, Pink Martini released its second album Seven years later "Hang on Little Tomato". The cover of the album features a man holding up a happy child on a blue background depicting the unlimited sky. The effect was of the fame was so profound that their CD release concert sold out very quickly. The band announced a second show night. In the gap of two albums, for the seven years, singer Pepe Raphael left the band to concentrate on his other band. He owned his band known as "Pepe and the Bottle Blondes". Another singer China Forbes who was singing only on a few tracks became the band's lead vocalist. Recently, Timothy Nishimoto who was always featured in a guest appearance went from guesting with the band to joining full-time. Now he will be singing the songs Pepe sang on the debut album "Sympathique".
While Sympathique featured mostly covers, the latest album "Hang On Little Tomato" comprises almost completely of original works by Lauderdale and Forbes. The original work of these two influential musicians had made the album grand success. In addition to the originality, the blend given by the other members has decorated the album with an exotic look and sound. Pink Martini songs have have featured in many films such as "In the Cut", "Nurse Betty", "Josie & the Pussycats", "Tortilla Soup" and "Mr. & Mrs. Smith". Not only in movies the songs have been appeared on many famous television shows such as "Dead Like Me", "The Sopranos" and "The West Wing".

 At the eve of New Year 2005, Pink Martini performed live at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland, Oregon. This concert made "Pnk Martini" much more lovable to its fan base. The performance was aired live on National Public Radio's Toast of the Nation. The concert was recored for a live DVD. It was broad casted on US public broadcasting and French television later on. Pink Martini has got a big group of 12 members that is larger than average membership so the band used to face problem in finding places in other cities to play & arrange their concerts or live shows.. But fortunately with the help of their friend Norman Leyden they started performing with various Orchestras across the nation, thus building their fan-base.
Began in June, the Pink Martini Live "Discover the World", a journey of global promotion, concert program has been aired on public television stations nationwide in selected cities. The concert DVD will be available exclusively for purchase as a membership incentive during these programs.
