Phil's mother played a very instrumental role in his career. His song The Woman in My Life was inspired by compassion and love he received by her mother. For the song he once remarked "The most important women in my life are my mother, my wife and my girls—my kids—so I incorporated them all." Song depicts the personnel life of Phil Vassar. First verse has description about his mother which provided him with the emotional stability to love his wife, which finds description in the second verse. While the third verse talks about his two daughters.
In 2000 he released a self titled album 'Phil Vassar' with eleven songs. Album consisted of some successful numbers. Songs on album were Carlene, Rose Bouquet, Just Another Day In Paradise, Like I Never Loved Before, Joe & Rosalita, Six-Pack Summer, Didn't You Know She's Gone, Drive Away, Somewhere In Between,
That's When I Love You and Lucky As Me.
In 2002 he released his second album titled "American Child" with twelve songs Someone You Love, I Thought I Never Would Forget, American Child, Athens Grease, Baby, You're Right, Houston, I'll Be the One, Forgettin's So Long, Ultimate Love, Stand Still, I'm Already Gone and Time's Wastin'.
2003 saw the release of "American Child"(Bonus Tracks). It was re-work of his earlier album in 2002 "American Child". The 2003 album released with fourteen songs.

His third album "Shaken Not Stirred" released in 2004. Album had twelve songs like What Happens in Vegas, I Miss The Innocence, Gone By Dawn, Nobody Knows Me Like You, Good Ole Days, I'll Take That As A Yes (The Hot Tub Song), Dancin' With Dreams, Amazing Grace, In A Real Love, Here To Forget, Black And Whites, and Erase.

In 2006 Vassar released Greatest Hits, Vol. 1 with greatest hits by him. It has songs written by him but cut by other musicians such as Collin Raye, Jo Dee Messina and Tim McGraw. The song The Woman In My Life was penned down by her wife.
