Pacific Symphony Orchestra
Background- The Pacific Symphony Orchestra was founded in the year 1978, in California. It is one of the largest orchestra that was formed in the United States. In the last thirty years, the orchestra is recognized as an outstanding symphony in the cultural community and is regarded as one of the third largest orchestra in California. The Symphony is led by music director Carl St.Clair. About the orchestra, The Los Angeles Times has said, 'St.Clair has become a significant musical leader in his years on this ‚as a result of his bold orchestra-building, his growing mastery of the repertory and his expanding astuteness at the art of programming.' Under the directorship of St.Clair, the orchestra has recently concluded its first European tour, thus expanding its reach to an international level.
The Symphony present some of its soulful and melodious musical compositions with repertoire that ranges from the orchestral masterworks to the music of the famous composers of present times and are highlighted by the annual American Composers Festival. The Christian Science Monitor has said, 'with the American Composers Festival, the Pacific Symphony has lifted the baton on an unprecedented initiative to explore the impact of non-European sounds on Western music. This marks the Symphony as a leader in contemporary classical music.' Along with the concerts the Symphony will also features some of the best-attended Pops series which will be performed by an orchestra in the United States, and chamber music, chamber orchestra and family concerts series.
The Pacific Symphony has played a great role in the growth of the performing arts in Orange County. It presents more than eighty concerts per year and also many educational and community programs and reaches to all the citizens of the country.

Artist Biography - Pacific Symphony Orchestra

 In the year 2006, the orchestra launched its first European tour where it performed in nine cities performing at the Philharmonie in Munich, the Konzerthaus in Vienna, and Lucerne Concert Hall. The new hall of Symphony was designed by Russell Johnson . According to St.Clair, 'The programming for our tour reflects the overall profile of the Pacific Symphony, blending works we have commissioned and premiered with standard repertoire'. He further adds 'As an orchestra in the twenty-first century, we look forward, but remain connected to the great traditions which have created the symphony orchestra of today, and we are honored to be invited to perform on the same series that has welcomed many of the world's great orchestras, representing Orange County and the United States.'
The Symphony has commissioned some of the leading composers of today such as William Bolcom, William Kraft, Tobias Picker, Frank Ticheli, and Chen Yi, who composed a cello concerto in 2004 for Yo-Yo Ma. The Symphony has also commissioned and recorded An American Requiem, which is performed by the recent Composer-in-Residence of the Symphony, Richard Danielpour on the Reference Recordings label that was released in the year 2002, and Elliot Goldenthal's Fire Water Paper: A Vietnam Oratorio with Yo-Yo Ma for SONY Classical. Some of the future commissions includes works by Philip Glass, William Bolcom, and Daniel Catan which will be performed for the inaugural season of the new concert hall.
Some other recordings include the two piano concerti of Lukas Foss recorded by Carl St.Clair, the Pacific Symphony, and pianists Jon Nakamatsu and Yakov Kasman, released on the Harmonia Mundi label in 2001, and a 1997 recording featuring the works of Japan's leading composer, Toru Takemitsu, with the percussion ensemble, Nexus, on the Sony Classical label.
