Ozzfest is an annual rock/metal gig that tours the United States, it features performances from the best heavy metal groups. The tour was developed by Ozzy Osbourne and his wife, Sharon Osbourne.
The tour consists of two performing stages, the first stage consists of the leading and major artists that have already made a name for themselves and the second stage features lesser-known or new groups. The Ozzfest was launched in 1996 and was meant as a limited two-city tour. But its popularity grew so much that it turned into an annual event. Since then the tour has become the stepping stone for many of today's top metal and rock bands. This Ozzfest's second stage has been instrumental in establishing the careers of Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Incubus, Slipknot, Disturbed and Godsmack.
Ozzfest returned in 2005 to celebrate its hard-earned 10th anniversary with the impressive line-up of Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Rob Zombie, Shadows Fall and Black Label Society. Ozzfest gives a lot od importance to its fans and it is the fans who play a vital role in deciding who will appear at the annual fest. The 2005 edition rolled out from Boston on July 15 and visited 26 cities by the time it reached West Palm Beach on September 4. The 2005 edition was also marred by the war of words between Sharon Osbourne and Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden. Dickinson made several critical remarks toward the Osbournes during the tour.
"Playing Ozzfest — twice — will always be among the highlights of our career," notes drummer Samuel Loeffler of CHEVELLE, who most recently appeared in the festival's 2003 line-up. "Personally speaking, I was honored and somewhat nervous about sharing the stage with Ozzy, but finally felt comfortable after both he and Sharon patted me on the ass."
