Background- Ottmar Liebert Luna Negra released Nouveau Flamenco, 13 years ago, which became one of the best selling album till date and since then they have never looked back. Ottmar Liebert is a famous composer and guitarist from Germany. He is the frontmant of an ensemble called Luna Negra ("Black Moon"). The ensemble has earned fame by performing as a touring band, and also recording a number of music albums in a "Nouveau Flamenco" style. He formed the band in the year 1989. The first album that they released was Nouveau Flamenco, which broke all the records, was self-produced. Later Higher Octave Music approached them and released the album again. They are known to blend the elements of flamenco with jazz, bossa nova, Hindu meditation music, and various other genres. Liebert has said that "flamenco is a music both romantic and dangerous; it is an attitude as much as it is a musical genre." As Ottmar Liebert speaks about his ensemble, "Allow me to explain. No, Luna Negra is NOT the opening act and you are NOT getting ripped off because it says on the ticket Ottmar Liebert + Luna Negra and where is Luna Negra, I didn't see an opening act....... We have been touring since the release of the album Nouveau Flamenco in 1990, and my band has always been called LUNA NEGRA. Most album covers actually say OTTMAR LIEBERT + LUNA NEGRA. The exceptions are: Euphoria because those are all remixes, and Leaning into the Night because we used an orchestra instead of the band. Luna Negra has been a trio and has been as large as a nine-piece in 1997. The name LUNA NEGRA was inspired by a poem by Federico Garcia Lorca I read in 1989. The poem talks about the spurs of the highwaymen gleaming in the light of the black moon."

Ottmar has been nominated a number of times for Grammy Awards, and is a platinum-selling composer as well as a guitarist. His works reflects his creativity. He has toured extensively with his ensemble Luna Negra throughout Europe and Asia spreading his music and has received international recognition. "I was honestly happy playing this music in hotels and restaurants in Santa Fe. In one year, going from doing that to opening for Miles Davis was a pretty intense jump," he recalls. "Most shocking for me was to realize how many different people from so many diverse cultures embraced it. I still get letters from fans in Europe, South-America, Australia, and Asia...it's been a really gratifying experience. I've had the opportunity to play in a wide variety of cultural settings with musicians from around the world, and that has been a great experience, too." Till date Liebert has released a total of 23 albums, including live releases, Christmas CDs, 10 CDs of original music, a DVD and remixes. He has become one of the famous and successful instrumental artists who has enthralled the listeners from all over the world. Some of his classic recordings are Euphoria (1995), the live album Viva! (1995), the double CD Opium (1996), an orchestral album Leaning into the Night (1997), Arms of Love in June of 2002 and The Santa Fe Sessions in February of 2003 and the most recent one In the Arms of Love: Lullabies 4 Children + Adults As Liebert says "Music is about seducing someone to what you're feeling, your vision. As a guitarist, I'm enjoying discovering, how, really, a melody is an associative process. It's a Rorschach test. You have a bunch of chords and what do you associate with that? As you get older, more possibilities emerge, as you have more experience." He also says that he is looking forward to collaborations also. "I enjoy it the more twisted it is. I'd love to do something with a really hard rock band, because you think, 'how the hell is this going to work?' It leaves room for finding something new," says the guitarist. He further adds "Music is a discovery for myself first, and second for my listeners. My soul is my antenna, I am the instrument + the guitar is my amplifier."
